Mid-Year Makeover: Underwear Shopping Tips

When refreshing your wardrobe, don't forget about shopping for the right underwear.

What’s a fun thing to do during the mid-year? Shop! As we transition between seasons and prepare for the rainy/colder months, we start shopping for clothes that will help us feel more comfortable while still looking stylish. But while we’re excited to shop for tops, bottoms, outerwear, footwear and accessories, let's not forget about shopping for new underwear as well.

Sure, not everyone may get to see your new underwear, but it’s equally important to be mindful of what you wear underneath your clothes. Aside from keeping your private parts protected, it also keeps you comfortable as you go about your daily tasks. In case you need help in shopping for the right underwear, here are tips on what you should look for.

  • Be mindful of the right fit – Avoid underwear that’s too loose or too tight. Underwear that’s too tight can result to chaffing and other skin irritations. While underwear that’s too loose will just be uncomfortable and not give you the support or protection you need.

  • Double check sizing information – Small, medium, large? How about 6, 8, 10, 12, or 36, 38, 40? Always make sure that you look for – and read --  sizing information, as brands can have varying sizing standards. You wouldn’t want to end up with ill-fitting underwear just because you assumed all “small”, “medium” or “large” are the same.

  • Consider the material – Cotton is always a great choice for your everyday underwear as the breathable fabric will keep you comfortable. Lace and silk underwear are nice but can be expensive; and many prefer to use them when they have something "special" lined up. If you workout a lot or live in particularly hot and humid environments, synthetic, semi-synthetic, or regenerated fabrics like microfiber, Tencel, and micro modal, are smarter options. They can wick away moisture, which is especially important for panties -- to preserve your vagina’s natural environment -- and offer excellent comfort and support.

  • Know the different styles – There’s so many names for bottom underwear styles: bikini, Brazilian, cheeky, boyleg, high-waist, thong, G-string. So make sure you know how to differentiate one from the other. Bikini briefs are great for everyday wear and suits most body types. If you want more support especially during your period, high-waisted underwear is the better option; and, if you hate VPLs (visible panty lines) especially when you have a fancy dress on, try switching to thongs.

One of the nice things about the internet is that you get more options when it comes to shopping for things you need or want. You can conveniently look up brands and see what they have to offer, ask about their products, make your purchase, and have it conveniently delivered to you.
